Gatherra Goings On

Today we’re launching some great new features:

Groups: You can now group your friends into groups that will make creating events for particular groups just that much easier. To create and manage your groups, click on the Friends menu link from any page. When creating a new event you can invite all the people in a group by selecting the Group tab in step 2 (Invite Friends). You can select as many groups as you want and can mix and match groups and individuals. Also, don’t worry if you invite the same person multiple times, we’ll only send them one invitation.

Re-Vite: It’s now easier than ever to create repetitive events. If you’ve created an event before you’ll now see the Re-Vite drop down list appear at the top of the event creation page. This drop down list contains all the events you’ve previously created. Selecting one from the list will automatically set the fields for the new event to match the one you selected. In addition we’ll automatically select all the people who were originally invited to that event. This makes it super easy to create recuring events, or events that are similar.

Invite EMail Enhancements: The actual invitation email that gets sent to your guests has been enhanced. It now includes links for Yes, No and Maybe RSVPs. It still takes the guest to the gatherra site but makes guest responses that much easier.

New Designs: Finally, we’ve added two new background designs from David Caraker

Monday Work

On Monday we participated in the Best Startup Competition at Sun StartUp Camp (http://wiki.startupcamp.org/wiki/BestStartup). Here’s how it works. There were 21 startups, each was assigned to a table, and for 3 fairly grueling hours, groups of people came by and you had 5 minutes to pitch them on your company. If you’ve never done this before it’s pretty brutal.

I was very fortunate to have the amazing help of the extremely talented, gregarious and beautiful Lori (of Hardy-Thompson, a great law firm, Laura Hardy-Thompson is the attorney and Lori Hardy-Thompson is their ‘rainmaker’ – contact them at lori.hardy at comcast dot net for all your IP needs).
I could not have survived the day without her. She started off espousing the benefits of gatherra and I came in and cleaned up with the technical details, we were like a well oiled machine, well, at least by round 6 or 7.

In short it was a pretty tough crowd, most of who were not in our target market. Still, I think we did pretty well and was pleased that we participated.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Sunday Fun

We’re spending today and tomorrow at Sun StartUp Camp at Moscone South in San Francisco. Hopefully we’ll learn a few things, or at worst, have a good time. More thrilling information as it becomes available.

gatherra Gets Gussied Up

You asked for it and we delivered, gatherra now has a brand new look – much brighter with a real Web 2.0 fell. We hope you like it. Of course, the challenge with a new design is that we’ve probably introduced all kinds of new layout bugs and inconsistencies, so keep those error reports coming, and don’t forget, we love feed back so let us know what we did right/wrong.

Some updates have been pushed to the site:

1. a few more IE7 layout fixes

2. a whole bunch of IE6 layout fixes. Sorry it took so long IE6 users.

3. we’ve changed the RSVP function so that you can now add a comment right when you RSVP, instead of the 2 step process we had before.

As usual keep the comments coming.

Bug Fixes

We’ve put up a bunch of bug fixes, primarily to do with IE7 layout and functionality issues.

What I wouldn’t do for consistency between browsers.

Launched!

Well, we’re launched, softly, but launched. As you can see there’s still a lot of work to do – design needs an overhaul and there are about a million ideas on the board, all of them crying out to be implemented.

However, what we really want to do now is hear from you so let us know what we can do to improve things, we’re all ears.
